We didn’t know exactly when the weather was going to clear up enough to make a ride up the mountain worth the time and effort. One option was to start our drive back home through Vermont, and by the time we got to Killington, the sun would come out and we got ride the gondola there. That would have been a much longer drive on top of what was already going to 7+ hours after lunch. In the end, we decided to take a chance on loon mountain. Glad we did. As a bonus, we had another drive through the Kanc to get there! Timing a fall color trip is usually a fool’s errand. Foliage isn’t the same every year either. You gotta be lucky. And lucky we were. This was hands down the best fall color I had ever seen. Loon mountain was on fire.
