Talking about fall in New Hampshire isn’t complete without mentioning the Kancamagus highway, running east-west through the heart of White Mountains National Forest, affectionately called the Kanc. By far the most popular scenic drive, for me it holds fond personal memories of more than a decade ago. Those were different times — through thick fog, 6 adults riding in a standard size rental sedan, exhilarating drive through the mountains for what was my first real encounter with peak fall colors in New England. I remembered the east entrance being busy during peak season, but not this much. The logjam meant we didn’t have much time to do the drive late in the afternoon, let alone go all the way to Lincoln for the Loon Mountain gondola. Still, the warm late day sun brought back some cherished memories, if not much in the way of pictures. We settled into the charming AirBnB chalet as darkness fell. Bad weather loomed next morning.
